US police confirm the death of Glee star Naya Rivera

Naya Rivera, known for playing the cheerleader Santana Lopez on Glee, has been confirmed dead by US police.

The actress, 33, had been declared missing on a boat trip in Lake Piru, in California on Wednesday.

Her four-year-old son told police after he was found alone and asleep in their rented boat, that they had both gone out swimming, but she never returned.

He told police that he saw her "disappear beneath the water".

After a long search on Monday, divers found her body using sonar equipment at the north-eastern area of the lake.

Sheriff Bill Ayub from the Ventura County Sheriff Department said that there was no indication of suicide nor foul play.

Although police forces are "confident" that the body is, in fact, Rivera, dental records and an autopsy will formally confirm her identity.
