Two men were detained by counter-terrorism police at Stansted Airport after 7 pm yesterday.

One man, 34 from Kuwait and the other, 48 from Italy, arrived on a Ryanair flight from Vienna and were detained by officers from the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, according to a statement from the unit.

According to BBC reports, after 7.30 pm the Ryanair flight was intercepted by RAF Typhoon jets after there were unconfirmed reports of a security threat on the plane.

Other media report that there were "suspicious objects" found in the plane's toilets, but police have not confirmed this.

Police enquiries into the incident are continuing.
