President Donald Trump has his Twitter account permanently suspended after it poses a "risk of further incitement of violence" with tweets surrounding the Capitol attack on Wednesday.

This comes after a previous twelve-hour suspension on Wednesday from the same platform where the President's tweets, which breached Twitter's glorification of violence policy, had to be deleted.

The social media giant joins Facebook in blocking the current President of the United States from using its platform.

While the White House has not released a statement, the suspension has been seen as a significant move from Twitter, especially seeing how Mr Trump has exercised his use of the platform excessively during his presidency.

It is thought that Mr Trump's tweets during Wednesday's riot, where armed domestic terrorists and Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Building and clashed with officers, prompted chaotic behaviour.

This includes his unsubstantiated claims about the November 2020 presidential election being fraudulent and an illegitimate win for President-elect Joe Biden, whose victory was due to be certified in Congress on the same day as the Capitol Building was attacked.

Since the incident, President Trump told the public that his focus now would be to provide an orderly transition of power to Mr Biden despite stating later that he would not be attending Mr Biden's inauguration.
