Twitter and Facebook have taken down President Donald Trump's campaign posts saying that children were "almost immune" to COVID-19.
President Trump stated that this was because of children having "stronger immune systems".
The posts included an interview clip from Fox News with President Trump which Facebook flagged as "harmful Covid misinformation".
Twitter also froze a campaign account for Mr Trump yesterday until the same interview clip was removed. It appeared to have been deleted at a later time.
The statement surrounded Mr Trump's plea to reopen schools across the US.
This removal is the first time a social media giant has taken down content posted by the president using their coronavirus-misinformation policy.
However, social media users have noted some discrepancies with the policy as back in March, Elon Musk tweeted that children are "essentially immune" to coronavirus, but this tweet allegedly did not break Twitter's rules.
The public health advice in the US makes it clear that children have no immunity to coronavirus.
President Trump also stated that the situation of the global pandemic is "going away".
