Netflix will not warn viewers that some scenes of The Crown are fictional.

This comes after complaints that younger audiences may mistake the drama as factual events, especially with the fourth series's release, depicting the relationship between Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, his first wife.

Netflix has defended its position by stating that the series has always been classed as a drama and not a documentary, therefore they saw no need to "add a disclaimer".

Oliver Dowden, the Culture Secretary, said in an interview with the Mail on Sunday, that he feared "a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact".

Mr Dowden joins a former Buckingham Palace press secretary in criticising the series. Dickie Arbiter described The Crown's storyline as "stretching dramatic licence to the extreme".
