Boxer Nicola Adams makes history by becoming Strictly Come Dancing's first celebrity to be in a same-sex pairing.
Official pairings such as these have not happened ever in Strictly's 16-year history.
The Olympic gold medalist told BBC Breakfast that she suggested the idea to producers when she was asked to take part.
Although her dance partner has not been revealed yet, she said that the decision was "really important" for the LGBT community to see same-sex couples on the show and added that "it's definitely time for change".
The reality TV show has shown a one-off routine featuring two male professionals dancing together last year. The dance, performed by Johannes Radebe and Graziano di Prima, was applauded by some but others found it offensive, as 189 complaints were made to the BBC about the performance.
Earlier this year, ice skater Matt Evers was partnered with pop star Ian Watkins becoming the first same-sex couple in ITV's Dancing On Ice.
As of now, six celebrities have been confirmed to be taking part in Strictly's 18th series. Names include British DJ Clara Amfo, actress Caroline Quentin, singer Max George, TV presenter Ranvir Singh and NFL player Jason Bell.
