Protests begin in the US state of Wisconsin after police shot a black man in what they called a domestic incident yesterday at 5 pm.

Video footage of the incident shows the allegedly unarmed man, Jacob Blake, being shot in the back several times as he was getting into a car in the southern city of Kenosha. No details have been provided as to what led to the shooting of Mr Blake. For now, he remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Hundreds of protesters gathered to march on police headquarters in Kenosha last night, with police reports of numerous incidents of armed robberies, vehicles being set on fire and shots being fired.

A curfew has been placed across the county until 7 am on Monday.

Tony Evers, the Governor of Wisconsin, condemned the shooting and stated that they stood against "excessive use of force" used by individuals within law enforcement.

The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, and the Department of Justice in Wisconsin are investigating the shooting.
