Plans to launch Fox News-like programmes to counter BBC

Plans to launch an opinionated current affairs TV station in Britain are circulating as faith in the BBC falls.

One group, All Perspectives, has suggested a channel called "GB News" which guarantees drastically different content then what current news channels offer.

These plans have already received a broadcasting licence from Ofcom, but this does not necessarily mean that the channel will make it to air.

The founder of "GB News" said that the BBC, the world's oldest national broadcaster, is a "disgrace" and suggested that it was "bad for Britain".

Another project, with similar goals, is being laid out by David Rhodes, a former Fox News executive. However, it is unsure whether these plans will form a TV channel or an online platform only.

As of now there are not many opinionated programmes on TV. Therefore there would seem to be a gap in the market for both of these suggested plans. Support for such plans could grow as BBC audiences are becoming frustrated with the broadcaster's output, especially on topics such as Brexit.

If either one of these proposed plans are successful, they could break the dominance that the BBC and Sky have over the news in the UK. Also, if models of audience rates for similar shows across the pond like Fox News are used, there could be a large number of viewers and in turn profits for these channels.

However, the issue that both these plans confront is impartiality which is a strict rule that is enforced by the media regulator. But by following the examples set by a selected few media platforms such as LBC or News UK's TalkRadio.
