Six people who came to India from the UK have been found with the new coronavirus strain, according to the country's health authority.
According to a statement made by India's health ministry, all of the patients are isolating and their close contacts have been put under quarantine.
This comes as the new variant of coronavirus has caused many global border closures with around 40 countries restricting travel to and from Britain, where it is thought that the new strain emerged from.
India is the latest country to join the travel restrictions list, suspending flights from Britain until the end of December.
India has been the second-worst affected country to be hit by COVID-19, with around 10.2 million recorded cases. Despite this, today's registered new cases of over 16,000, shows a sharp decrease from the daily rate recorded four months ago.
