Head of Test and Trace, Baroness Dido Harding, is now self-isolating after she received a request from the NHS app last night.
Apps users can receive this notification if they have spent time close to a person who has tested positive for coronavirus.
It is thought that the Baroness's husband, John Penrose, the MP for Weston-super-Mare, was also told to quarantine by the application one week ago.
Downing St in the last few weeks has had several reports of positive COVID-19 cases such as Lee Anderson, a Tory MP for Ashfield, and the most recent self-isolating news includes Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Baroness Harding's supervision of the app, as well as the app's performance, has come under fire this year after overwhelming demand was placed on test centres and several members of the public had their results delayed.
