The 96th Academy Awards plans to be more inclusive than ever for best picture nominees, due to historic reforms laid out on yesterday.
The Oscars in 2024 will have four representation categories within the best picture category including on-screen, at the studio, among the crew and in training and advancement opportunities in other aspects of developing the film and its release.
The film academy said that for films to be considered within this category, they need to meet at least two out of the four representation standards.
These standards, developed by Oscar's governors and the Producers Guild of America, took inspiration of diversity standards utilised by the BAFTA's and the British Film Institute.
The move is to increase diversity and representation of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and disability both on-screen and off for "long-lasting, essential change in our industry" according to Oscar officials.
David Rubin, the president of the Academy, said: "The aperture must widen to reflect our diverse global population in both the creation of motion pictures and in the audiences who connect with them,"
