Black people are over five times more likely than white people to be murder victims in England and Wales, according to a new study.
The research conducted by Cambridge University's Institute of Criminology, also found that Asian people were twice as likely as their white counterparts to be victims of homicide.
Although a specific reason behind these figures was not reached, possible factors such as racism and austerity have been suggested as instrumental elements behind this data.
The research piece known as 'Racial Disparities in Homicide Victimisation Rates: How to Improve Transparency by the Office of National Statistics in England and Wales', examined data from the past two decades.
At the start of the 21st century to 2019, the number of killings of black victims ranged from 200 to 800 per cent higher compared to white victims.
More recent homicide figures show that rates of killings were 24 times higher for black people aged 16 to 24 than white people of the same age-range.
