This comes as some areas have recorded over a month's worth of rainfall in just 26 hours.

The six weather warnings cover most of the UK's western regions, with the hardest hit areas expected to be south Wales.

It is thought that over twice the average amount of rainfall for this month has fallen in south Wales, which has received an amber weather warning, possibly disrupting transport links and causing blackouts.

As many as 98 areas in England alone could experience flooding due to the heavy rainfall, such as the south-west.

Wales and Scotland have issued several flood warnings and flood alerts across their regions, warning their residents of the risks of damage to properties and land as well as advising immediate action to combat the floods.

Forecasters warn that there may be more rainfall due in the coming week.
