The sister, Alison, will seek £1.2m in damages against her younger sister for the remarks she made in her book "The Meaning of Mariah Carey" in September.
The legal complaint was submitted to the New York Supreme Court earlier this week.
The "outrageous" allegations include Alison putting Mariah at risk, when she was a child, of being pimped out.
The claims have been denied by Alison, who added that there is no proof of the allegations and that its purpose was to "humiliate and embarrass" her "penniless sister".
Mariah has yet to submit a comment on the issue.
