A man has been arrested after one person was killed and seven others were wounded in stabbings in Birmingham yesterday.

The suspect, currently being questioned, is being held on suspicion of murder and seven counts of attempted murder.

According to the West Midlands Police, the 27-year-old was arrested at 4 am today in the south-west area of Selly Oak.

The stabbings, deemed "random" by police forces, occurred at four different locations in the city centre after midnight on Sunday.

CCTV footage of the man thought to be responsible for the attacks was released last night.

Ch Supt Steve Graham said: "I'd like to thank everyone who shared our appeal and who provided information to the investigation."

He added that the investigation is still continuing. Members of the public are being encouraged to come forward with any information that they may have.
