From Wednesday, nails bars and beauty salons can reopen on Leicester, according to the health secretary.

The latest review also includes the reopening of tattoo parlours and piercing businesses as well as outdoor pools.

However, Matt Hancock has said that the restrictions on private gatherings in homes and gardens are still prohibited.

Restrictions such as shielding will also remain in place, except for people who meet outdoors in groups of six while social distancing as well as single-adult households.

Mr Hancock stated that the rate of infection in the East Midlands city had dropped to a safe enough level for the lockdown restrictions to be eased for selected businesses.

Leicester was the first city in the UK to have a local lockdown, which occurred on the 30th of June when the infection rate in the city rose to over 100 cases per 100,000 people.

From the 7th to the 13th of August, the rate fell to around 60 cases per 100,000.
