US singer, Lana Del Rey, wore a mesh face mask at a book signing in Los Angeles on Friday, stirring the opinions of her fans.

The songwriter read parts of her new poetry book 'Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass' at a store of Barnes and Noble.

The mesh mask in question is similar to those Del Rey wore in a photo shoot for Interview magazine earlier this month.

It is possible that there was a transparent sheet underneath the glittery mesh mask. If this were the case, then the protection of others from possible infected droplets would have remained intact, regardless of the fashionable outer layer.

Some of her online fans pleaded with the star to wear a "real mask" and that her choice of face-covering was "incredibly irresponsible" and "embarrassing".

According to Del Rey's sister, Lana has tested negative for the virus and said that during the event, Lana kept six feet from fans at the book reading.

This statement contrasts with some photos circulating on Twitter that shows Lana interacting closely with fans and the Instagram livestream of the event at the weekend shows the singer removing her mask after her poetry reading.
