Kay Burley from Sky News apologises for tier 2 breach

A Sky News presenter apologises after admitting to having a birthday party which broke coronavirus rules over the weekend.

Kay Burley, the host of the Kay Burley @Breakfast programme, held a 60th birthday gathering of ten people on Saturday evening at a club, then a restaurant and finally Burley's house in London. These gatherings breached tier 2 restrictions that the capital and the majority of the country is under.

The "disappointing" incident, which included a few other Sky journalists and correspondents, will be reviewed by the company.

A spokesperson for Sky News said: "Although this took place at a social event in personal time, we expect all our people to follow the rules that are in place for everyone."

The broadcaster has previously criticised the government's advisors such as Dominic Cummings and Professor Neil Ferguson, for breaking lockdown rules.
