Owner of Café Rouge and Bella Italia says that the chains have gone into administration.
Ninety-one outlets are to be closed, mainly in England, as soon as possible, and 1,900 staff members are set to lose their jobs.
Casual Dining Group, the company that operates the Bella Italia and Café Rouge chains, have come forward saying that they hope a new owner could save the business. The firm has said "multiple offers" have come through which the company would progress.
The news follows the thousands of job losses that have been announced this week, as COVID-19 has badly hit the UK's economy.
Harrods, Easyjet and Airbus are just a few of the companies that have also announced job cuts because of the lockdown measures.
This issue for UK restaurants was present even before COVID-19, but since lockdown measures have been implemented since March, the revenues of these chains have rapidly decreased. Even with the gradual lifting of restrictions starting on the 4th of July, revenues will not increase automatically nor quickly. Therefore, a range of firms have announced the cutting of staff in order to control their finances.
