Begum, who left the UK as a teenager to travel to Syria and join ISIL (ISIS), has been classed as a security risk by the Supreme Court in their unanimous decision today.
The now 21-year-old will not be allowed back in the UK to challenge her British citizenship being revoked but instead can pursue her appeal elsewhere.
Begum had her citizenship stripped back in 2019, but the Home Secretary, at the time, Sajid Javid argued that she was eligible for Bangladeshi citizenship as it is the birth country of her parents.
Despite this, Begum's access to Bangladeshi citizenship has been questioned as she was not born there nor held a Bangladeshi passport.
While some have welcomed the ruling for public safety and national security, others have noted the dangers of making an individual stateless under international law.
