Hackers target Obama and Elon Musk Twitter accounts

Elon Musk, Barack Obama and Bill Gates are just some of the official Twitter accounts that were targeted by hackers in a Bitcoin scam.

The hackers tweeted from the official accounts, asking the public to donate in the cryptocurrency invented in 2008.

Some of the tweets were deleted almost as soon as they were posted.

The accounts of Kanye West, Jeff Bezos and Joe Biden were also hacked as well as the official company accounts of Apple and Uber.

Twitter has said that there is an ongoing investigation into the attack and that "significant steps" were being taken to limit the hacker's access into the internal systems such as disabling password resetting options.

Those verified targetted accounts were able to send tweets again from half past midnight on Thursday.

While Twitter is still working on their investigation, the real identities of the hackers are still unknown.
