Three female directors, Emerald Fennell for 'Promising Young Woman', Regina King for 'One Night in Miami' and Chloe Zhao for 'Nomadland', have been nominated for the best director category this year.

This is the first time that more than one woman has been shortlisted in one year. Only five women have been nominated as directors in the last 77 years.

This comes as the Golden Globes 2021 nominations list have been published today.

The list also revealed that several British celebrities have been nominated including Sacha Baron Cohen, Olivia Colman, James Corden, Hugh Grant, Emma Corrin, Josh O'Connor, Anya Taylor-Joy Riz Ahmed, Sir Antony Hopkins, Dev Patel, Vanessa Kirby and Carey Mulligan.

Netflix's TV show 'The Crown' has six nominations as does David Fincher's film 'Mank'.

Meanwhile, Aaron Sorkin's 'The Trial of the Chicago 7' and Eugene and Dan Levy's 'Schitt's Creek' have five nominations each.

Nominations for the best actor category include the late Chadwick Boseman, who died in August 2020, for his role in 'The Mauritanian'.

The Golden Globe 2021 winners will be announced on the 28th of February in a ceremony hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
