Four people have been arrested in Italy after two British girls were gang-raped on Monday earlier this week.
Local press reports said that the girls, who were on holiday in the south of the country, were attacked with slaps and punches before being raped.
The rape happened at a house party in Marconia di Pisticci, after which the girls called an ambulance and were admitted to a hospital in Matera. The girls have since been discharged from Madonna della Grazie hospital, according to the news outlet Adnkronos.
Italian police from the area released a statement yesterday: “On the night between 7-8 September, in Marconia di Pisticci, sexual violence was committed against two foreign minors who were at a party in a villa. The investigative unit of Matera police headquarters has begun investigations in coordination with the public prosecutor’s office.”
