Six explosions have been reported across hotels and churches in Sri Lanka, this morning.
Police sources say that approximately 137 people have been killed as a result.
Reports suggest that over 560 people have been injured. But this figure, as well as the death toll are expected to rise.
Three churches in Batticaloa, Colombo's Kochchikade district and Negombo were hit as well as the Cinnamon Grand, the Kingsbury and the Shangri-La hotels (also in Colombo).
Breaking news reports suggest that another explosion occurred at a hotel opposite the Dehiwala Zoo in the suburbs of Sri Lanka. No updates to how many people were injured in this particular attack.
Ten days ago, the AFP received reports from Sri Lankan police chief, Pujuth Jayasundara, that a potential attack was being planned by the NTJ (a radical Sri Lankan Muslim group). The group were allegedly planning to target churches and the Indian high commission in Colombo, through a series of suicide bomb attacks.
Despite this, the NTJ, nor any other group have come forward yet to claim responsibility.
