Crossrail has been delayed once again until 2022 and has gone over budget by a further £450m.
This brings the total amount of money spent over budget to nearly £4bn.
TfL said that the pause was because of social distancing requirements and the temporary stop of construction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, due to current regulations of how many workers can be on-site at the same time, there are only 2,000 workers on the project.
This latest pushback of opening of the Elizabeth Line means that the train line will open three years later than planned.
This announcement comes after a board meeting about the transit line, concluding that the initial opening date of 2021 was not realistic.
According to Crossrail, while the Elizabeth Line was in its final stages of completion, the project was surrounded by significant uncertainty as coronavirus outbreaks were beginning to rise.
