New quarantine rules coming into effect on Saturday may mean that Brits on holiday need to rush back to the UK.
Grant Shapps, the transport secretary, announced today that those coming into the UK from Trinidad and Tobago, Croatia and Austria will need to self-isolate for 14 days.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the UK had 20.9 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over two weeks. Whereas Austria had 30.8 cases and Croatia had 41.7 cases per 100,000.
The travel changes are due to come into effect at 4 am tomorrow.
UK tourists coming from Portugal will not need to self-isolate now, as the country was recently added to the UK's corridors list.
However, the changes may add to pressures on UK travellers. Rory Boland, the Which? Travel editor, has stated that those trying to follow the government's guidelines as well as trying to avoid non-essential travel are finding it increasingly challenging to claim refunds in specific countries.
