Students across Wales, Northern Ireland and England will get their GCSE grades today after it was announced on Wednesday evening that BTecs would not be released as they are being re-graded.

This comes as schools have given the A-level and GCSE's results instead of them being calculated by a flawed algorithm, in the latest government U-turn.

The decision to re-grade BTec results was made by the exam board Pearson and was announced just hours before the results were due to be released.

The delay affects around half a million students, despite 250,000 of these pupils receiving their A-level equivalent results last week.

Nick Gibb, the schools minister, has come forward saying that he hopes the new and improved BTec grades would be released next week.

Mr Gibb also said that he would make sure that no young person was disadvantaged because of the delay and that he understood the frustration felt by the affected pupils. Still, he added that the decision was made to ensure that the results were fair after GCSE and A-level grades were changed.
