BBC staff will not be able to attend LGBT pride events, even as a personal endeavour, as of yesterday amid new rules on the impartiality of their journalism.
The regulations introduced by Tim Davie, the BBC's director general, come as the BBC has been criticised over biases of their journalists and the broader political bias of the public broadcaster.
The new guidelines will only apply to those working in the news and current affairs areas of the BBC.
While LGBT pride marches were not explicitly mentioned in the new rules, the guidelines say that some issues are "'controversial' with regard to protests or demonstrations".
Therefore it is thought that examples such as pride marches and Black Lives Matter marches, could be banned for BBC staff and the extent of the new rules would be down to the interpretation of local managers.
This comes alongside new social media rules for BBC staff, restricting what they can say on their individual social media platforms.
